Harold F. Alvord Memorial Fund
The Norwalk Tree Alliance (NTA) has established the Harold F. Alvord Memorial Fund. Its purpose is to establish a sustaining memorial to honor Hal and his legacy of service to the Norwalk community, especially for his advocacy in enhancing Norwalk’s tree canopy. For over 12 years, as the City of Norwalk’s former Director of Public Works and Tree Warden, Hal was a prominent supporter of the mission and activities of the Norwalk Tree Alliance and the Norwalk Tree Advisory Committee. In this past year, Hal was President of the Norwalk TreeAlliance.
The Fund will be administered by the Norwalk Tree Alliance as a separate account for the sole purpose of funding a suitable memorial, to be established as a joint effort by NTA and the Norwalk Tree Advisory Committee. All donations are tax deductible, as the NTA is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization.
For his obituary, Hal Alvord’s family suggested: “In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree. Otherwise, Hal would certainly appreciate your donation in support of the Norwalk Tree Alliance or any charity of your choice.”
The NTA already has received generous donations from family and friends to the memorial fund. Plans for a tree memorial at Fodor Farm, a heritage city landmark in Norwalk, have been established by the Norwalk Tree Alliance and the Norwalk Tree Advisory Committee, in consort with the wishes of Hal’s family.
